IES Custom Design Software
IES has developed custom software called IESSE (Industrial Environmental Systems Stack Engineering). IESSE can be used to quickly and accurately model a variety of stack configurations. IESSE is the most complete and comprehensive stack design software developed to date, and it is not available anywhere else in the industry. Some of the features of IESSE are listed below.
- Stack structural and dynamic (including fatigue) design meets requirements of ASME STS-1 Steel Stack Standard
- A factor of safety of 1.5 is generally used, however, this factor can be modified
- Wind loads can be applied using both fastest mile and 3 second winds in accordance with various national wind codes. Custom wind loads can also be applied
- Seismic loads applied per Uniform and International Building Codes
- Stacks can be modeled using various shell materials of both carbon and stainless steel. Custom steel properties can also be input
- Allowable stresses are calculated based on shell material, temperature of the stack, diameter of the stack and corrosion allowance
- Actual stresses combine axial stress (P/A), bending stress (M/S) and circumferential stress
- Stacks can be modeled with multiple diameters and multiple lateral braces
- Design can incorporate multiple platforms with either caged or Saf-T-Climb ladders. Model will include both dead load of platforms and ladders as well as wind loads on platforms and ladders
- Dynamic stability can be modeled by using helical spoilers or Tuned Mass Dampers, when required
- Program output includes the following:
- Wind and Seismic loads and deflections
- Allowable plate stresses
- Plate stress unity check (Actual stress/Allowable stress)
- Base design
- Reinforcing design
- Stiffener
- Dynamic analysis
- Fatigue
- Reynolds number
- Strouhal number
- Critical velocities
- Material lists
- Weights
